A roundtable on public health was held

On 9 November, Natalia Pohrebna, Director of the Department of Economics and Digitalization of Kyiv Regional State Administration, took part in an online roundtable organized by the Public Health Centre of Ukraine and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with the purpose of discussing ways to improve food and reduce salt and sugar consumption, saturated fats and trans fats by our people.

Representatives of the Public Health Centre have expressed serious concerns about the negative impact on the health of citizens by excessive consumption of salt, sugar and fat. It is noted that adult Ukrainians consume twice as much salt as normal. More and more deaths are due to unhealthy nutrition.

Participants were informed that, pursuant to the instructions of Ukrainian Government, a bill has been elaborated aimed at protecting the health of children and the population, with the bill containing transitional provisions to reduce the impact on business.

In Kyiv region, the matter of a healthy lifestyle, including a healthy nutrition of people, is at the focus of Kyiv Region Development Strategy for 2021-2027. Kyiv region is also implementing a pilot project named Quality nutrition - a healthy child, aimed at balanced, healthy and quality nutrition of children.

Natalia Pohrebna presented to the participants of the round table the work of the Smart Specialization Department of Kyiv region named Production of innovative food products with improved consumer qualities (functional food) and presented a cluster initiative regarding creation of an innovative cluster of functional food in the region.
