Panel discussion on "Innovative development of the region and smart specialization of the Kyiv region: status and prospects of development"

Kyiv region ranks sixth in the country in terms of the number of innovatively active industrial enterprises.

The research results were presented during a panel discussion on "Innovative development of the region and smart specialization of the Kyiv region: status and prospects of development".

The discussion was initiated by the Department of Economics and Digitalization and the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

According to the director of the Department Nataliia Pohrebna, there are 41 innovatively active enterprises operating in the Kyiv region. They introduce new or significantly improved products to the markets. Last year, the total volume of products sold amounted to UAH 990.5 million. More than 77% of this amount came from exports. This is about UAH 766.9 million.

Representatives of the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine presented the situation in other countries. They focused more on the implementation of smart specialization.

In addition, the participants discussed other practical aspects of creating innovation clusters. Representatives of the Industrial Business Park “Slavutych”, furniture and energy clusters of the Kyiv region, spoke about their experience.

They also considered promising areas of development in the Kyiv region and analyzed the prerequisites for creating an innovative medical cluster in the Bucha Municipal Territorial Community.

Panel discussion on the field of smart specialization in the Kyiv region "Development of energy efficient solutions based on alternative energy sources"

On December 08, 2020, the Department of Economics and Digitalization of the Regional State Administration held a panel discussion with the representatives of territorial communities of the Kyiv region, business, scientific institutions and public organizations that are interested in establishing a dialogue between key stakeholders of the region in the field of alternative energy.

The share of regional employment in the field of "Production, transmission and distribution of electricity" is 3.5%. This is the highest rate among the industries that occupy leading positions in the regional economy in terms of innovation. 27.3% of all boiler houses in the Kyiv region run on alternative fuels.

Energy experts, former Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Oleksii Orzhel, and Chief Project Engineer of the Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Benmenni Mukhub shared their vision of the prospects for the development of "green energy" in Ukraine and in the Kyiv region.

Director of Municipal Enterprise "Regional Development Agency" Aryna Starovoitova shared how the municipal energy cooperative in Slavutych works, created for the purpose of building a solar power plant. Serhii Shpak continued discussion on the topic of roof solar power plants (engineering company "Getman Brothers Group" LLC).

Davyd Shamoiev ("Energy Line" LLC) spoke about the advantages of energy-efficient solutions for communities, in particular in accounting and electricity consumption control. Matvii Hetman ("Kyiv Energy Cluster" LLC, Bila Tserkva) shared how it is planned to develop green energy projects within the framework of the Kyiv energy cluster.

Researcher at the National Research Center "Institute of Agricultural Mechanization and Electrification" Nataliia Veremeichyk informed about the innovations for the production of solid biofuels from bio-raw materials, developed by the National Research Center "Institute of Agricultural Mechanization and Electrification".
