On January 29, 2021, the Department of Economics and Digitalization of the Regional State Administration held a panel discussion with the representatives of territorial communities of the Kyiv region, business, scientific institutions and public organizations, where they discussed the food industry, which has a significant economic and innovative potential, in particular, the production of bread, bakery, flour, cereals and feed.
Director of the Department of Economics and Digitalization Nataliia Pohrebna noted that almost 400 enterprises belonging to small and medium-sized businesses operate in the food industry of the region. Their share in the regional volumes of sold industrial products is the largest and amounts to 28.7%. In addition, food production enterprises employ almost 8.0% of industrial workers, and the share of goods exports of industry enterprises in the total is 41.5%.
One of the leading topics of the panel discussion was the debate on prospects for the production of innovative food products with improved consumer qualities (functional food) by enterprises of the region."
Representative of the Department of Economics and Digitalization of the Regional State Administration Olena Boiko presented information on the development of innovation-oriented sectors of the economy of the Kyiv region based on smart specialization, in particular the, the development of food industry.
Scientists of the National University of Food Technologies Valerii Makhynko and Halyna Voloshchuk highlighted information on modern technologies in the production of functional bakery products and the impact of raw material quality on food products.
The participants of the panel discussion listened with great interest to the speech of representative of the State Enterprise "Zeelandia" (Brovary) Svitlana Pavlina on European experience in the production of functional food.
Nataliia Shcherbak, who represented LLC "Kyiv Bakery House" (Brovary), shared her experience in organizing a food safety management system at the enterprise.
Co-owner of HD-GROUP, CEO Borys Shestopalov shared his thoughts with the audience on topical issues and prospects for the development of the industry, popularization of healthy eating.
Representative of the All-Ukrainian Bakers' Association Olena Zhukova focused
on energy efficiency issues that are important for industrial enterprises.
During the discussion, the idea of creating a regional cluster of functional food was expressed, since there are all the prerequisites for this: a large concentration of food producers, innovative technologies of scientists, a large number of patents in this area, the potential for development, a large market outlet for products - Kyiv city, as well as existing trends in healthy and balanced nutrition in our country and the world.
